Interesting choice. Now discover how Jesus responded to all three.
1. Stones into Bread
After fasting for forty days, Jesus was hungry. The tempter challenged Him to prove His identity by commanding stones to become bread. The need for food was real, but Jesus refused to use His power outside the Father’s will.
“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4:4 NASB
Key idea: Physical needs matter, but obedience to God comes first.
Exam connection: This temptation tested whether Jesus would use His power for Himself rather than remain obedient to His Father.
2. The Temple
The tempter took Jesus to the pinnacle of the temple and challenged Him to throw Himself down. Scripture was quoted to suggest that angels would protect Him, but the passage was being used to encourage presumption rather than faithful trust.
“You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.”
Matthew 4:7 NASB
Key idea: Faith trusts God. It does not manipulate Him or demand spectacular proof.
Exam connection: Scripture can be quoted but still misapplied when its meaning and purpose are ignored.
3. The Kingdoms
The tempter showed Jesus the kingdoms of the world and offered them to Him in exchange for worship. Jesus rejected the offer immediately because no promise of influence or success could replace loyalty to God.
“You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.”
Matthew 4:10 NASB
Key idea: No success, possession, or position is worth compromising our worship of God.
Exam connection: The temptation offered a shortcut to authority without the obedient path of suffering and sacrifice.
