Spiritual gifts are gracious provisions of God through which the Holy Spirit equips believers to serve others, strengthen the church, and participate in Christ’s mission. They may appear as capacities, ministries, or particular manifestations of divine help. The focus of the New Testament is not self-display but the good of the community (1 Cor 12:4–11; Eph 4:11–16; 1 Pet 4:10–11). The Greek word charisma (plural charismata) stresses a gift rooted in grace. Paul also speaks of different services, activities, and manifestations: varied expressions of God’s work within one body (1 Cor 12:4–7). Office: a recognized responsibility in church governance. These categories can overlap, but one must not be substituted for another. A Christian may develop a natural aptitude for teaching and also exercise a Spirit-enabled teaching ministry. Yet neither competence nor spiritual experience exempts a person from learning, humility, scrutiny, or wise safeguards.

03 | CHRISTIAN FORMATION IN EVERYDAY LIFE Church and marketplace Legliz ak lavi pwofesyonèl The New Testament chiefly describes spiritual gifts in the gathered and scattered life of Christ’s people. Christians also live and work in families, schools, businesses, healthcare, public service, and communities. These are meaningful places to demonstrate Christlike service, though the gift lists do not automatically label every occupational competency a spiritual gift. THE CHURCH: EQUIP THE BODY LEGLIZ: EKIPE TOUT KÒ A The church is the primary setting named in the gift passages. A teacher helps people interpret Scripture. A person with gifts of service supports ministries others carry out. A leader equips the saints rather than accumulating control. Even quiet contributions may be indispensable (1 Cor 12:22–26). THE MARKETPLACE: EMBODY FAITHFUL SERVICE A Christian educator may teach with unusual clarity; a manager may guide a team with care; a business owner may use resources generously.
